Throwback Thursday… The Sliding Barn Door

No doubt, barn doors are in… very “in”! And there is a good reason why:

1) They are a way to express creativity and add a little “funk” / personality to a project.

2) They can be used instead of a pocket door as long as you have the wall space for them. This can be a less expensive option if you are doing a renovation because you don’t have to open up the wall the way you need to when installing a pocket door.

3) The hardware and door style can range anywhere from reclaimed to modern and juxtapose with the rest of the space if that is a look that you desire.

This barn door is on display at the Gallery in Kittery and was built by Old House Parts in Kennebunk, Maine. Not only is the wood a “Throwback” but the entire door system has long been used on old barns to new. Here is an article that has a bit more information on this excellent “Throwback Idea”.
